Heatrae Sadia - The UK’s Leading Player in Electric Water Heating
Heatrae Sadia is the UK's largest manufacturer of electric water heating products. Established over 75 years ago, Heatrae Sadia supplies its products worldwide.
The Baxi Group has a turnover of €1b and is the third largest manufacturer of domestic central heating boilers in Europe.
Products for use in residential, industrial and commercial premises:
• Unvented Storage Water Heaters – Electric and indirect
• Vented Storage Water Heaters – Electric and indirect
• Instantaneous Water Heaters – Electric Showers and Hand Wash units
• Boiling water units for drinks
• Electric Immersion Heaters and Thermostats
Technical leadership
Heatrae Sadia brings advanced technology to bear in what is normally perceived to be a low-technology industry. For example, the new Supreme boiling water product features built-in water conditioning and Intelliboil™ - temperature management. Megaflo has led the market for unvented storage water heaters for more than a decade, thanks to its exclusive use of Duplex stainless steel and its unique internal air gap system.
Product Reliability
Heatrae Sadia’s “fit and forget” philosophy is reflected in a minimum two year guarantee for the majority of products. Multipoint small unvented water heaters and titanium immersion heaters have a five year guarantee while Megaflo and MegaLife cylinders have a ground-breaking 25 years.
Customer Support
Heatrae Sadia offers customer support at every stage – from specification through to installation and after-sales service. A team of over 25 qualified field sales managers is available to meet specifiers and distributors on site to discuss products and installation issues. They are backed by a dedicated and fully qualified technical support team at the Norwich headquarters.

Heatrae Sadia Products FAQ Explained.
Expansion in unvented systems
There are no cistern tanks or open outlets to accommodate expansion in an unvented system. All systems above 15 litre and some systems of 15 litre or less, employ an expansion vessel or an internal air-gap to accommodate expansion.
In some cases with systems of 15 litre or less, it may be possible to accommodate expanded water in the cold water supply pipework.
Building regulations
All units above 15 litre must be installed to meet the requirements of the Building Regulations. It is a legal requirement that the local Building Control Officer be notified of any proposed installation of unvented water heating systems over 15 litre capacity.
A recognised body such as the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and BEAB must approve products up to 500 litre and 45kW.
Furthermore, it must be fitted by an installer who has successfully completed a recognised course in the installation of unvented heating systems such as CITB.
Safety requirements in this country call for an expansion space (internal or external), safety devices to prevent the stored water exceeding 100°C, and pipework to convey discharged hot water safely away from the safety devices.
Can I use the Megaflo HE with Solar Heating?
Unfortunately the Megaflo HE cylinder has a single indirect coil making it less suitable for use with solar heating. However, it may be possible if the standard central heating system and solar collector are linked and controlled by motorized valves.
Please contact your specifier for further assistance.
Can the new Megaflo HE be installed onto a gravity heating system?
No, the indirect 'coil in coil' design does not allow for thermal convection.
Expansion in conventional systems
Conventional vented system, i.e., cistern-fed and cistern type systems, expansion is accommodated by a rise in the water level in the cold water cistern tank. There is a similar increase in the level of water in the vent pipe .
In open outlet systems (e.g. point of use water heaters) hot water is delivered from the open outlet by displacement of water in the heater. In this type of system, allowing the water to drip from the open spout accommodates expansion.
How do I descale my shower handset?
To descale your shower handset we recommend you use vinegar. Disconnect the handset from the shower hose and leave to soak overnight in a bowl of vinegar. Then rinse thoroughly with cold water
How often does the shower handset need descaling?
It’s difficult to give an estimate of time as it depends on the hardness of the water supply. However, we would recommend that as soon as spray becomes fine or begins to shoot off at different angles as an indication to descale.
